What is PredictWind Forecast?

A Marine Forecast from PredictWind

PredictWind combines sophisticated wind weather prediction technology with local topography maps to create the highest resolution marine forecast available for over 20,000 locations around the world.

In addition you can access a lower resolution marine forecast for any area around the world. The marine weather modelling technology is only available through the PredictWind website.

Developed by research scientists over 30 years, it has been adapted to provide hourly predictions to localised areas as small as one square kilometre.

Using PredictWind...

PredictWind is easy to navigate and understand. You can choose to get a marine forecast for your local area, your coastal and offshore passages. Marine weather forecasts are updated twice daily so you will always have the latest information.

You can choose to view a local (1km) resolution one day marine forecast, or a five day regional (8km) resolution wind forecast. The daily local wind forecast maps will scroll through an hour-by-hour graphical representation of wind weather speed and direction. The five day forecasts are predicted in three hour time intervals.

PredictWind provides graphs showing expected wind speed/direction, rainfall/cloud cover, temperature/barometric pressure and wave height/direction/period for up to 6 specific locations that you can select from the woldwide database.

The information is also available in printable text format so you can take a copy with you onboard. You can also access text forecasts via your mobile phone.

With the professional version of PredictWind you can download the information as GRIB files ready to upload to your onboard navigation software. We even have a free GRIB viewer that has an interface to automatically upload the GRIB files on the chart. This technology allows you to see the wind weather pattern relative to the boats position for coastal/offshore passages.

PredictWind uses two data sources for the wind weather model, to produce two alternative marine weather forecasts for comparison. The closer the wind forecast, the more confidence you can have in the PredictWind wind forecast.
