Forecast Alerts

Forecast Alerts are user-defined or service-issued notifications that warn boaters when predicted marine conditions are likely to exceed chosen limits. In a sailing or navigation context, they typically relate to wind strength, gusts, waves, rain, visibility, temperature, or rapid changes that may affect a vessel’s safety, comfort, or schedule.

For skippers, Forecast Alerts turn forecast data into actionable decisions: delay a departure, shorten a coastal hop, reef earlier, choose a safer anchorage, or brief crew before conditions deteriorate. Alerts are especially useful when monitoring Wind Speed, Wave Height, and Fog during passage planning or watchkeeping.

In PredictWind, alerts can complement model comparison, maps, tables, Weather Routing, and Departure Planning by highlighting thresholds that matter to your boat and crew. Offshore sailors can also use forecasts downloaded in the Offshore App to stay aware of changing conditions when connectivity is limited.
