GMDSS Graphical Forecasts
February 27, 2025
GMDSS Graphical Forecasts are chart-style marine weather forecasts that present official safety information visually rather than only as text bulletins. They typically show expected wind, wave and pressure patterns, fronts and significant weather over defined sea areas, helping mariners understand conditions affecting a passage within the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System framework.
For boaters, these maps make it faster to identify developing gales, rough seas or route hazards before committing to a departure or altering course offshore. Used with GMDSS warnings, Sea State assessments and Weather Routing, they support safer watchkeeping, better fuel or sail planning, and earlier decisions on reefing, delaying or seeking shelter.
PredictWind users can compare official GMDSS graphical products with high-resolution model maps, GRIB downloads and route forecasts to build a fuller picture of risk. In the Offshore App, weather data available via satellite helps crews monitor changing wind and wave trends when internet access is limited at sea.
