About Algiers Port
ALGER Port is located in the West Mediterranean, West Mediterranean in Algeria. The official UN/LOCODE of this port is DZALG. It is also known as ALGIERS, ALGIER. The bay of Algiers has an opening of approximately 15 kilometres, from west to east; its depth exceeds 7 kilometres. The port, entirely artificial, covers 90 hectares. It is formed: by a 200-meter-long pier (Khéredine pier) which joins to the mainland the islet on which the Spaniards had built the Fort du Pegnon; by a second pier, called the North, which is rooted on this islet and runs in the direction of northwest to southeast, over a length of 900 meters; by the pier, called the South, which is rooted to the mainland under an old Turkish fort (fort Bab-Azoun). This pier, made up of two branches meeting at right angles, is terminated by a pier which leaves, between its end and the North pier, a pass of 250 meters. The Port of Alger is managed and operated by Enterprise Portuaire d’ALGER (EPAL) and is coordinated by the National Corporation of Maritime Transportation and the Algerian Navigation Company.
