About Porto Santa Panagia - Siracusa
Porto Rifugio di Santa Panagia is an important port area located north of Syracuse, in the eponymous bay. Originally built in the 1970s to support the operations of the ISAB refinery, the port currently plays a crucial role in managing the commercial and industrial maritime traffic of the region. Main Features: Industrial Function: The port is equipped with a 1,340-meter-long pier, mainly used for the docking of oil tankers and chemical tankers involved in the petrochemical sector. Infrastructure: In addition to the pier, the port includes a breakwater and internal mooring structures. However, recent reports have highlighted significant damage to the infrastructure, requiring urgent interventions to restore the port's functionality. Access and Security: The bay is monitored by the Port Authority of Syracuse, which ensures navigational safety and coordinates rescue and intervention operations in case of emergencies.
