Swimming/Picnic Areas: Cedar Key City Park offers a swimming area with a gazebo, picnic tables, and restrooms. Outer islands feature isolated swimming beaches. Supplies: Bait shops and a grocery store are available in Cedar Key. Location: Cedar Key is an island in the Cedar Keys, located in West Central Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. It is a short drive from Gainesville and Ocala. Cedar Key was named for the trees that once grew here and was settled in the 1840s by Augustus Steel. The region supplied salt to the Confederacy by boiling seawater. Known as the "Nature Coast" of Florida, it attracts bird watchers, star gazers, and nature lovers from across the country.
