Facilities: Boat ramps and slips available. Reservations required for extended stays. Call city hall at 352-543-5132 to make reservations. In addition to the city marina, there is also a public fishing pier and private marinas (see business directory). Swimming/Picnic Areas: Cedar Key City Park offers a swimming area with a gazebo, picnic tables, and restrooms. Outer islands feature isolated swimming beaches. Rentals: Canoes, kayaks, and boats available for rent. Charters also available. Visit the business directory for contact information. Supplies: Bait shops and a grocery store are available in Cedar Key. Location: Cedar Key is an island in the Cedar Keys, located in West Central Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. It is a short drive from Gainesville and Ocala. Cedar Key was named for the trees that once grew here and was settled in the 1840s by Augustus Steel. The region supplied salt to the Confederacy by boiling seawater. Known as the "Nature Coast" of Florida, it attracts bird watchers, star gazers, and nature lovers from across the country.
