About Torbay Harbour (Inner Dock)

Harbour authority facilities with visitor berths Torbay Harbour Authority and Beaches are transitioning to a cashless service across all offices, quaysides, and beaches. This will cover, among other things, visitor charges, launch and recovery, electric, and short-term beach hut hires. This change will apply from Monday 14th April. Our goal is to streamline operations, improve the safety of our staff and the service efficiency. Torquay Harbour (Inner Dock) is the inner part of the harbour in Torquay, a coastal town in Devon, England. It’s a well-known marina and waterfront area located right in the heart of the town and forms part of the larger Tor Bay Harbour complex. The Inner Harbour (Inner Dock) is a tidally controlled enclosed basin behind a cill and bridge that keeps the water level stable at around half-tide, meaning it doesn’t dry out at low tide. Access for boats is controlled by hydraulic gates and the bridge. It offers pontoon finger berths for around 200 boats (typically leisure craft up to ~9.14 m long). The entry is subject to tide conditions due to the cill system, so vessels typically enter around high tide windows when the gates are lowered. The Inner Dock sits central to Torquay’s waterfront, close to Beacon Quay and the town centre. The waterfront area around the harbour has cafés, restaurants, pubs, and shops, making it a popular social and tourist destination — perfect for strolls, scenic views, and relaxing by the water. It’s a hub for maritime activities, from pleasure boating to occasional events and excursions along the English Riviera coast. Facilities & Experience You’ll find a lively mix of boats moored here — from leisure vessels to small yachts — with views across the bay and frequent visitor activity in the warmer months. The harbour itself is just a short walk to places like Torre Abbey Sands, and there are often boat trips, shows, and seasonal events making it a vibrant spot for both locals and visitors. In short, Torquay Harbour (Inner Dock) is both a functional marina and a picturesque waterfront destination at the centre of Torquay’s maritime life.
