A map in a maritime context is a scaled visual display of sea areas, coastlines, routes, hazards, and environmental information used to understand where a vessel is and what lies ahead. It may be a nautical chart, an electronic chart layer, or a weather map showing forecast conditions over water.
For boaters, maps turn position and forecast data into practical decisions: plotting a safe track, avoiding shoals or land, choosing an anchorage, or timing a passage with favourable wind and tide. They work alongside a Chartplotter, GPS, and Weather Routing to improve safety, efficiency, and situational awareness.
In PredictWind, map views display wind, gust, rain, wave, current, sea temperature, and tidal information so crews can compare models and conditions visually. High-resolution forecasts, including 1km Wind Maps and GRIB overlays in the Offshore App, help skippers plan coastal trips and offshore passages with clearer context.
