Sea Temp Maps

February 27, 2025

Sea Temp Maps are marine forecast charts showing sea surface temperature across coastal and offshore waters, usually with colour shading and temperature contours. For boaters, they reveal how warm or cold the upper ocean is along a route, around banks, headlands, current boundaries and fishing grounds.

Temperature changes can mark fronts where an Ocean Current accelerates, eddies form or sea life concentrates, making them useful for Fishing, passage timing and fuel or sail performance. When combined with wind and wave forecasts, they also help crews assess comfort, storm development risk and route choices for Weather Routing.

In PredictWind, Sea Temp Maps complement wind, wave, rain and Air Temp Maps in the Forecast App and web forecasts. Offshore crews can review sea temperature alongside GRIB-based model data to understand wider ocean patterns before committing to a departure or adjusting course at sea.
