Power Routing
February 27, 2025
Power Routing is weather-optimised route planning for motor vessels, using forecast wind, waves, currents and a powerboat performance profile to calculate the safest, fastest or most fuel-efficient course between waypoints. In a marine context, it is not electrical power distribution; it is route optimisation for vessels travelling under engine power.
For skippers, Power Routing helps avoid steep head seas, uncomfortable beam seas, adverse currents and unnecessary fuel burn. It supports better passage planning by comparing routes, speeds and departure times against forecast conditions, making it closely related to Weather Routing, Sea State and Fuel Consumption.
In PredictWind, Power Routing uses high-quality forecast models with vessel settings such as cruising speed, fuel burn and wave limits. Routes can be reviewed before departure and updated offshore via the Offshore App, helping power boaters choose practical passages that balance safety, comfort, time and range.
