Temperature

February 27, 2025

Temperature in marine forecasting is the measured heat of the air or sea at a vessel’s position or over a forecast area. For boaters, it is usually shown in Celsius or Fahrenheit and read alongside wind, pressure, cloud and precipitation to understand changing weather over the water.

Temperature affects crew comfort, watchkeeping, condensation, visibility and safety. Rapid drops can signal frontal activity; warm, moist air over cooler water can increase fog risk; and extreme heat or cold changes hydration, clothing and hypothermia planning. It is closely linked with Humidity, Sea Temp and Weather Routing.

PredictWind displays temperature in forecasts, maps and GRIB downloads so crews can compare conditions along a route or at anchor. The Forecast App and Offshore App make it practical to monitor model trends, while Air Temp Maps help identify hot, cold or frontal zones before departure.
