It was the first fishing port in the country, built in 1846, in the form of a wooden pier. The Harbour of Ghazaouet is about thirty kilometres away as the crow flies east of the border between Algeria and Morocco and 45 kilometres from the Messali El-Hadj International Airport in Tlemcen. It is located at the bottom of a sandy cove with an opening of 1300 meters and a depth of 400 meters in the middle of which a small stream called Oued Ghazouanah emerges. The port is located at 35° 6' 00 North latitude and 1° 52' 21 West longitude.
