PredictChat can now be used to send and receive SMS messages using any satellite connection. SMS messages must be initiated from the boat, to start the SMS chat conversation.
The GO! exec does not have an SMS service, so PredictChat is the only way you can send an SMS using the GO! exec. The functionality can be extremely useful when you need to make contact urgently, without the need to make a voice call. The SMS is delivered by our virtual phone numbers in almost every country in the world, and so the cost for the recipient to reply in those countries is only the cost of a local SMS text message.
PredictChat can now be used to send and receive WhatsApp messages, completely free of charge. WhatsApp uses a lot of data, and can consume up to 1MB in only ten minutes, even if no messages are sent. WhatsApp messages must be initiated from the boat in order to start a WhatsApp conversation with PredictChat.
The PredictChat App will try to send messages via WhatsApp first. If it’s not available, it will send via SMS to minimise SMS messaging and lower SMS message spending.
PredictChat and PredictMail can be combined with PredictWind GPS tracking service to achieve almost zero data usage in most cases.
This is achieved as Iridium has a minimum 5kb billing increment. Email, SMS and WhatsApp messages sent and received by the DataHub are compressed into one operation, and in most cases there is no additional data usage to the 5KB minimum billing increment incurred during GPS tracking. The GPS tracking only uses 500 Bytes, and there is over 4KB that can be used for emails, SMS, and WhatsApp messages. If you limit your messaging to text only, in most cases you will not use any more data than if you were just doing GPS tracking only.
