Pantograph Wiper

January 16, 2025

A pantograph wiper is a marine windscreen wiper system with paired, parallel-moving arms that keep the blade square to the glass throughout its sweep. It is fitted to wheelhouse and bridge windows on powerboats, yachts, ferries and commercial vessels where a broad, consistent wipe pattern is needed on large, flat or near-flat panes.

Clear glass is a safety item: rain, salt spray and condensation can obscure buoys, traffic, breakwaters and crew on deck. A pantograph layout usually gives better coverage than a single-arm sweep, but it depends on a sound Wiper Arm and reliable Wiper Motor. On the Bridge, test washers, park position and blade pressure before poor weather.

Related equipment includes heated blades, washer pumps and corrosion-resistant linkages specified for marine use. PredictWind forecasts for Rain, Wind Speed and Wave Height help crews anticipate spray and visibility issues, choose a safer departure window, or delay a night approach until conditions improve.
