Southeast

Southeast (SE) is the intercardinal compass direction halfway between south and east. In navigation it is a bearing of 135° when referenced to true north, or 135° magnetic when referenced to the ship’s compass. A southeast course means steering towards SE; a southeast wind is named for where it comes from, so it blows towards the northwest.

For passage planning, SE conditions affect sail selection, motoring angles, lee shores, anchorage shelter and sea state. Check the forecast Wind Direction against your planned Heading and local Tidal Current; wind over tide from the southeast can steepen waves, while a sheltered coast may provide smoother water and safer routing.
