As for Palm Harbor Marina, it was built in 2005 to replace Mahogany Landing Marina, which was severely damaged during Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Palm Harbor was constructed using the most advanced modern dock-building techniques. The docks are floating and made of aluminum, with hardwood Ipe decking. They are anchored in place with massive concrete pilings that are 70 feet in length. The pilings extend 18 feet out of the water to deal with storm surge. Palm Harbor is the only marina in the area rated for a Category 3 storm with boats remaining in the marina.
